In-Between Fighting Tournament Story Chapter 41
In-between Chapter 41: FINAL PART 2
Despite the sheer number of stuffed animals, it was fairly easy to defeat the entire platoon. Once the din from all the slashing and blasting died down, Lita and Baqir heard the evacuation sirens going off, urging everyone to get to the shuttle bays where emergency escape pods were waiting.
Lucky for Lita and Baqir, there was one close by.
“Come on!” Baqir said, grabbing her hand and pulling her through a shadow portal. Lita instinctively held her breath until they were through. While most people could pick up the faint smell Baqir’s shadows generated, the horrible odor seemed to effect Lita the most, causing her to gag most of the time.
A moment later they were in one of the shuttle bays, only to find it had become a battle field as well.
Or more accurately, a

In-between Chapter 40: FINAL PART 1
It was almost time.
The tournament was officially over. Many of the contestants had already left, most of the losers taking the early slots for the shuttle portals that would transport them back to wherever they called home. Despite Lita and Baqir having lost in Round 4, they had volunteered to take the very last slot, affording Lita a little more time to make her decision on whether to do the Time Spell with Baqir or go back to Earth.
The week leading up to that day had passed by in a blur for Lita. The final round had happened, the grand champion announced, and then the after party itself had lasted at least three days straight. Lita and Baqir hadn’t been present for most of the festivities though. She had spent most of the time saying her farewells to her friends who had taken their turns for the portals.

In-between Chapter 39: Finding Self
Everything felt so warm, but not in a pleasant - cozy kind of way. There was smoke in the air making it hard to take a deep breath. The scent of heated concrete and badly burnt meat seemed to penetrate her skull. It was probably that odor and the uncomfortable temperature that woke her.
Lita opened her eyes to see grayness.
Slowly she sat up, putting a hand to her aching head. She blinked ash out of her eyes and looked around. Where was she? And just what had she been doing before this? It was too overcast to tell what time it was and everything around her seemed to be in ruins, making answering her questions more difficult.
She felt a strange weight on her back begin to dissipate. She looked over her shoulder to see her Goddess wings were in the process of dissolving.

In-between Chapter 38: Chibi
“Beetle dung and camel piss! CURSE IT ALL TO BLOODY HELL!!!”
Lita had been in the process of checking on the cinnamon rolls when she heard the uncharacteristic swearing come from the next room. While it was odd to hear Baqir swear aloud, what made it uncharacteristic was the fact that his voice seemed to have changed pitch.
“Baqir, is everything al-” Lita started, walking into the living area. The sight before her caught her so off guard that she wasn’t able to speak for a full minute.
Sitting on the couch (actually, more like hunched) was Baqir, but a version of him she had never seen before. A significantly smaller version; one that looked acutely uncomfortable in the now too large clothes he was wearing. He was glowering, but it lost significant effect due to the f

In-between Chapter 37: Feels
“What is it, Princess?” Baqir asked, not looking up from the book he was reading.
“Huh? I didn’t say anything,” Lita said, her face scrunching in confusion. Making a slight break in their evening routine, the two of them were hanging out at Baqir’s suite. He was laying on the couch while Lita was seated on the floor close to his head.
“You’ve been wanting to say something though,” he said, turning a page.
“What makes you say that?” she asked, huffing slightly as she tried to look semi-occupied with the app on her tablet.
“I just know,” he said confidently. Lita was about to argue, but she supposed if she could hear the smirk in his voice, then it wasn’t too farfetched that he could t

Story 4: Restful
Baqir was not one to get easily distracted. Quite the opposite; once he had his mind set or started on a task, not much could disturb him. In fact, there was only one person that could cause him to drop whatever held his concentration.
She had gotten up and changed seats once every five minutes for the past hour. She would sit in one place, trying to busy or distract herself with something on her tablet then abruptly stand up and find a new place to squirm. Baqir didn’t have Lita’s talent of being able to read people’s emotions, he didn’t need to. He read people through body language, Lita being the easiest person to decipher.
On the way back to her room, the two of them had heard the announcement of the final match lineup, all good

Story 3: Feeling Ill
“Ugh. I’m gunna die,” Lita groaned in agony.
“You’re not going to die,” Baqir calmly responded, not looking up from the book he was writing in.
“I ate worms that are gunna make me diiiiieeeee!” she insisted, further tightening into a ball.
“Worms? I thought you simply ate that odd chocolate concoction,” Baqir said, finally looking over at his moaning companion.
“That had worms in it! Nasty, nasty stomach virus woooorrrrrmmmsssss,” she hissed. Whatever that chocolate thing had been, Lita vowed to never again take so much as a single bite of it (even though it had been quite good).

Story 2:In the Rain
“What? What’s wrong?” the thief lord asked, nearly jumping out of his seat.
“Check it! Check it! Check it!!!” Lita exclaimed, pulling him off the couch. She dragged him clear across the room, coming to a sudden halt in front of the balcony doors. Baqir just stared out, waiting for her to explain her sudden urgency. Finally, she got tired of waiting for him to figure it out.
“It’s raining!” she said, as if it should have been obvious.
“I can see that. And the significance of this is...?” he asked, still in the dark.
Lita sighed in frustration, as if the answer should ha

Story 1: Scents
A spice rack, she decided. Baqir smelled like a spice rack.
After months of being unable to pinpoint Baqir’s scent, Lita finally had it. When he wasn’t covered in blood, sweat and dirt, the Thief Lord was actually quite pleasant smelling. Of course, one had to be pretty close in order to pick up the scent, but for Lita that was never a problem since Baqir seemed to take any and every opportunity to get as physically close to her as possible.
The two of them were currently seated on the couch in Lita’s suite, Baqir barely an inch away from her. She couldn’t help but smile at his blatant audacity. She wouldn’t have put up with it if he had tried to touch her inappropriately, but the most he ever did was have their shoulders brush, so she let it slide. Truth be told, she like

In-between Chapter 32: Medico Adventures Episode 3
By now Lita had become accustomed to the strange and cryptic ways the Medico receptions labeled in-coming patients. Because of this system she had learned in mostly amusing ways how different cultures and up-brings affected how one interpreted things.
Space Elf Couple, Thing Obsessed with Sand + Guns, Crazy Sword Elf Chick, she was able to figure those out. Others like Cubian Space Twoat look-a-like, Stripped Kahoodel, and Muhka-wuhka-wuhka were completely lost on her.
Then there were the ones that made her seconded guess herself.
“ ‘The Black Masked Man’ ,” she read aloud for the third time as she made her way over to the patient’s room (Room Twitterpate - yet another thing about Medico she wasn’t able to understand; how they labeled the

In-between Chapter 31: For All the Reasons
Something was wrong. Something terribly wrong.
Lita pulled the elfin warrior along towards the clothing center of the shopping mall. They must have looked quite odd; a tall warrior woman being led by a girl more than half a foot shorter than her. If the situation had happened on any other day, Lita would have laughed.
But this wasn’t any other day.
Back in at Medico, Lita had sensed something was seriously up with Kat, even with her emotional dampers on. Plus there was the fact that Orion had found her in the bar trying to stone herself (and was saved by Riley of all people).
Something had snapped in Kat. That much was clear. Though Lita doubted very much that the elfin warrior would be willing to talk about it. At least not right away.
So she decided to start with something less touchy.
“So ... How are thi

In-between Chapter 30.5: Heavy Lifting
The preliminary tests were not going well.
Baqir stared at the scorch mark in the middle of his bedroom. The miniaturized time spell he had been testing had shown much promise in succeeding. Then in the middle of the second stage it just ... Blew up.
“Curses,” he muttered. Taking a closer look once the smoke had cleared, the thief lord examined the charred remains of the rat he had attempted to send back in time. Upon closer review, he found that while the rodent had indeed perished, judging from the state it was in it seemed to have regained some of its youth. Retrieving the other components of the spell further proved his growing suspicions.
The time spell had failed simply due to an inadequate power stabilizer.
For a proper stabilizer to keep the spell from sho

In-between Chapter 30: Working Hard/It’s Hardly Working
Enough was enough, Lita decided. It had been laughable before but now things had just grown too ridiculous!
Lita walked across the room, her footsteps heavy with each stride, until she reached the table Baqir was currently working at. Dramatically, but with great care not to rattle things too much, Lita slammed her palms down on the tabletop.
“Would you take a break already?! You’ve been working on those crystals for the past four hours!” she said, clearly exasperated.
“I’m almost finished,” he said, somewhat absentmindedly. Lita rolled her eyes. Ever since the results from Round 4 had been announced, Baqir had been working almost nonstop on the Time Spell components. Lita had offered him some lab space at her place to keep an eye on hi

“Well, that one looks less disastrous,” Lita mused, her eyes roaming over one of the many rides in front of them.
“What qualifies as ‘disastrous’?” Baqir asked, not as impressed as she was with their available options.
“Something that’s going to make me sick,” she clarified, mentally nixing off the Spinning Cups of Doom.
“Wonderful,” he dryly said. Lita ignored him.
“I don’t think I’m brave enough to try the Near Death Swings... Probably’ll get a bad case of sea sickness if we tried the Viking’s Curse ... and letting you drive bumper cars would most likely end in a disaster ... and not the sick kind,” she continued, growing increasingly more frust

In-between Chapter 28: Date Night Part 2
Well, this is a disaster, Lita thought biting her lip as she glanced at Baqir. Her over protective companion was stiffer than a board, a menacing scowl on his face. The focus of his enraged gaze was the man standing across from him.
Lita only then realized how stupid she had been to suggest trying out the games the carnival was offering. She had never played any of them back on earth, and with their free game passes Lita had hoped to try some out here. Just their luck that they would run into Riley in front of the shooting games. Any doubt of Baqir still holding a grudge against the gunslinger was made pretty clear. At this point Lita was sure nothing short of a miracle was ever going to get Baqir to forgive Riley.
“Buttqir,” Riley finally said, breaking the heavy silence.

In-between Chapter 27.5: The Shadow Realm Recruiting Agency
Lina wasn’t sure what was going on or how she had even gotten here. All she knew was that she was in serious hell. Not the fun fire and brimstone kind of hell either. The hell she was in was much nastier than that.
“Are you finished gawking yet?”
The red skinned demon pivoted around several times with all the grace of a three legged beetle, searching for whoever had spoken. No matter where she looked though, all there seemed to be was darkness. Worse yet, moving darkness. Nothing seemed solid and yet there was no clear way out. If she wasn’t standing, she would have sworn there was no ground either. Then there was the smell. Lina had been in enough fights to know what blood smelled like. This was much worse than that. Because it smelled like rotting blood (if blood could rot. She w

“Well, that was a disaster,” Lita said, looking very glum.
“It wasn’t that bad,” Baqir said, trying to reassure Lita.
“Really? Between the seminar being bumped up to an earlier time, the riot that broke out over the cookies, and the awkward ‘safe sex’ questions, you think it went well?” Lita asked, as the two of them made their way out of the hotel. Baqir grimaced as he held the door open for her, recalling some of the less pleasant events that had occurred during Lita’s Medico presentation.
“It could have been worse?” he tried.
“Of course it could have been worse, but at this point I fail to see how,” she sighed. “And you were no help whatsoever! You just stood th

“I’m sorry! I freaked!” Lita said, still looking pretty startled. Baqir just rubbed his cheek. He supposed he should have expected that. After all, she was pretty notorious for going over the top when it came to her reactions.
“Are you okay, Baqir?” she asked.
“I’m fine. What’s the last thing you remember?” he asked, unconsciously bitting his tongue in anticipation.
“The last thing...?” she echoed, holding a hand to her head. Baqir felt his stomach drop. What if she-?
